SCC Kids - Sunday 6th September

Hi Everyone
This Sunday we are looking at the story of Jairus' daughter.
You can watch the story here...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1KAC6Jrofg (Jairus' Daughter KidsHubTV)

In the story Jairus would have been very worried, but Jesus told him not to worry! Jesus also told them to get her something to eat and not to tell anyone what had happened, perhaps this was to encourage normal routine and to protect the girl from being really worried about what had happened. I wonder how many of you are anxious about restarting school? Some of you may have started school already - how did it go? In this story Jesus says. "Don't be afraid. Just trust me, and she will be alright" Luke 8:50. Let's try to remember that verse this week applying it to our lives - "Don't be afraid. Just trust me, and you/your children will be alright!" I pray that 'normal' routine will be good for you too!

There's also a great song called Brave, why not join along at home and remember the lyrics this week! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLAVCv_onTw (Motions Brave)

SCC Kids - Sunday 30th August

Hi Everyone
This morning at SCCKids we are looking at Jesus' encounter with Zacchaeus. There's a great Saddleback kids clip you could watch:

Zacchaeus climbed a tree so that he could get a better view of Jesus - the great teacher he had heard about. Have you seen any good climbing trees recently? (Always be careful when climbing trees and always have a responsible adult with you) Or have you climbed any hills to get a good view? What was it like to be able to have a great view? Lets pray that we too can have a clear and true view of Jesus. How could you show kindness to someone today?

Or you could choose to watch our SCCKids session on love because Jesus reached out with love and kindness to help Zachaeus to be the best he could be https://www.somptingcommunity.church/scc-kids-handling-emotions#SCCKids-HandlingEmotions-Love

SCC Kids - Sunday 23rd August

Hi Everyone
This morning at SCC we are looking at Jesus' encounter with a man born blind.
There's a great clip here you could watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4qZ2KSbdxI Jesus Heals A Man Born Blind Saddleback Kids or you could watch our SCCKids session on hurt because the man born blind was blind so that people could see the power of God through Jesus healing him. Sometimes hurt and pain in our lives can help us to see God’s power: https://www.somptingcommunity.church/scc-kids-handling-emotions#SCCKids-HandlingEmotions-Hurt

How about having a go at making a mud pie! While your mixing the mud think about how that would have felt for the man when Jesus put mud on his eyes! If you have an already bought facial mud pack at home you could have a go at putting that on each other! Why not pray whilst making your mud pie/putting on your facial mud mask, asking God to touch you where you may need healing or His special touch in your life!

Or choose something from the picture below.

SCC Kids - Sunday 12th July

Hi Everyone! Welcome back to SCC Kids and our series Handling Emotions

Today we will be looking at Joy.

Sadly, this is the last SCCKids as we will be taking a break over the summer so we can re-evaluate things and plan for the new term. Keep a look out on our Facebook page for links to some good clips you can check out over the summer break.

Joy is the feeling of happiness we get – but it goes a bit deeper than that when we are talking about the joy that God gives us. In the film Inside out, when life with Riley just starts with Joy, things are really lovely and easy to start with; but then life happens and other things start to get in the way and other emotions take control. We can't always be happy, and when we try to be things can start to go wrong like in the film. However, the Bible teaches us that we can have joy in all circumstances because of the love and goodness of God!

Last week we saw how Cinderella had courage and kindness whatever happened to her because of the love of her parents, and we can have God’s joy deep in our hearts when we know that God is good all of the time and he loves us whatever we do, where ever we are, and when we know that He is always in control.

We aren’t always expected to be happy all the time, but we can always have deep joy that comes from knowing God and being known by Him!
1. Watch -  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgOv6RxbfKw - Trolls, the official trailer

The theme behind Trolls is happiness – they are always so happy! A few key phrases in this clip include: "This is a story about happiness, how far some will go to get it and how far we went to get it back." When their circumstances changed Poppy begins to experience sadness, but they all come together and support each other and they teach the Bergens that they too can be happy; they just need to look inside themselves and help each other to find it, “Happiness is inside all of us sometimes you just need someone to help you find it.” We need each other to encourage us and remind us of how good God is and how much He loves us! Another key phrase is, "It’s the music that rescues them" and this can be so true! Music is so good for our soul and in the Bible, there are two men who were thrown into jail for telling people about Jesus but instead of moaning and feeling miserable they started to sing and praise God and the prison walls fell down!

They lit up when they felt joy and shared their joy with others!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEbwiQvo5k4 - Saddleback Kids, The Parable of the Great Banquet

In this story we see that the King invited many guests – they would have already accepted a first invitation, but when the word came that the party was ready, they made excuses and refused to go. You know sometimes we try to find joy and happiness in the wrong places – in our things and in other people. We get distracted by life and start to lose happiness. The king and his son would have been very insulted that the people started to refuse to come to their party! But he had spent so much money and time getting everything ready for the party that he didn’t want to waste it so he generously opened up his invite to include everyone in the town! This is like God – He has prepared a party for us in heaven, and He wants us all to say yes and join in the party! When we know that we have been invited to the King of King’s party table why wouldn’t we want to go? He wants us to say yes to Him and to have joy that we can forever party with Jesus in heaven!

3. Sing - Lets get a little crazy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FnMo6OE1s5o
4. Task- Make party hats, or a party food cone using the template - print it out or have a go at drawing it, cut it out, decorate it, then roll it into a cone shape and stick it together.

Or have a go at making your own bunting, decorate it and attach it onto some string or wool. You could make some gratitude bunting by writing or drawing something you are thankful for on each shape - see how long your gratitude bunting can grow!

You could even play some party games or have a dance off with your family if you like, to remember how much God loves us to celebrate His joy with Him!
Well, we hope you have enjoyed our Handling Emotions series!

We hope you have a fun and relaxing summer. Don't forget you can always catch up on your favourite SCC Kids session, or catch up on anything you have missed over the summer break. SCC Kids - Sunday 5th July

Hi Everyone welcome back to SCC Kids

Today we will be looking at love. What do you love? There’s a rock song called ‘Love is only a feeling’ but actually, while love is a feeling we can experience, love is not just a feeling; it is also a choice and an action, and can be hard work! We have to work hard to love people sometimes! I wonder if you can think of a time when someone has shown you love and kindness? How did that feel? Can you think of a time when it was hard to love someone?

Last week we looked at hurt and the feeling of hurt we sometimes get when someone corrects us – for example when a parent disciplines a child. But we have to remember that a parent disciplines a child because they love their child and they want the best for them! This may not feel very loving at the time – its tough love, but it does come from a place of love!

The Bible says that God is love and Jesus teaches us to love God and love others. The Bible also describes that love is patient, kind, never fails, protects, trusts, hopes and always perseveres. Love doesn’t get jealous, boast, isn’t proud, rude, self-seeking, doesn’t get angry easily, and doesn’t keep a record of wrongs.

Jesus taught us about God’s love and showed love by helping people and healing them.
1. Watch -  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJgROx4wFKM Saddleback Kids Prodigal Son.

In this clip we see that Jesus taught us to love all people. All kinds of people would come and listen to Jesus and that was ok, but it upset some people because they didn’t think He should be around people who made bad choices. So Jesus told them this story. He was trying to show that even though people make bad choices, God still loves them and runs to welcome them and forgive them. We need to realise that we can all make bad choices but when we say sorry God forgives us. God loves us when we spend time with him and the older son had his father’s love all the time – and that’s the best way to be, but it is also good to celebrate when someone recognises when they have done wrong, say sorry and are forgiven. To love and be kind is always the best choice! Cinderella has a great motto – have courage and be kind!

I love Cinderella! She knows that her parents love her very much, she has a lovely secure and loving relationship with them and they teach her to have courage and be kind. Even though sadly they then die and she is bullied and treated horribly by her step mother and step sisters she chooses to follow her parent’s teaching and chooses to love and to be kind, and this inner beauty shines out to all who see her. I think she chooses kindness, gentleness, goodness, love etc. out of love and respect for her parents – she could have become very angry and sad and upset but she knows that to follow her parent’s teaching will honour them so chooses to behave kindly because of her love for them. When we know that God loves us so much and when we enjoy a loving relationship with Him, then like Cinderella, we too can choose to be kind and to love others!
2. Chat through the take it home sheet.
Click to Download
4. Task- What could you do to show love to others?

Could you make something for someone, give someone a call or a card, do some cooking or baking for someone, say something kind to someone, help someone with something?

You could make a ‘God is love’ hanger or keyring to remind you of God’s love and that His love is the key that opens up the doors of sadness, anger, jealousy, hurt etc, love has different keys such as kindness, gentleness, goodness etc that opens the door to show love to help us and other people.
It also reminds us that God is love and He wants us to show His love to others.

SCC Kids - Sunday 28th June

Hi Everyone welcome back to SCC Kids

The next session of our series Handling Emotions. Today we are looking at hurt.

Hurt is a feeling we get when we have pain, this could be physical but it can also be emotional. We can all experience pain in our lives can't we!

There are different ways where we may be hurt emotionally, for example, we can feel sad when people say untrue things about us. When we recognise that it is not true, then we need to let it go and not take it on board, and we also need to forgive the person who hurt us. We may feel hurt when we are overlooked, but when we try to understand the reasons it can be helpful to understand and that helps us to not feel so badly hurt.

For example, if we aren't invited to a party it is probably not about the person not liking us, it's more to do with numbers being limited. We can feel hurt when someone tells us that we could do something better, or maybe we have done something that's not quite right. This is usually true and it may feel like we are being told we are wrong but it is usually for a good reason to help us to learn and grow, to be the best that we can be. It can often be painful for the person giving the advice too e.g. a parent disciplining their child, but this is done in love and to help the child to be the best they can be.

Sometimes people hurt us because they are feeling sad and are hurting themselves. For example, someone may make a nasty comment about your family not because they don’t like them but because they are jealous of your family because they are unhappy at home.

Sometimes we can learn from our hurts and pain and this helps us to be stronger!
1. Watch - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-PhM9xPZ_E Jacob wrestles with God – a faith kids story video.

This clip shows us that Jacob was afraid his brother would hurt him because he had hurt his brother when they were younger by stealing his inheritance blessing from him! He had messed up and made mistakes in the past, but God planned to use Jacob despite this. Boys often wrestle to sort things out, and Jacob was doing this. He didn't really want to fight with his brother, so he wrestled with God. The wrestling match shows us how Jacob was changing through a personal encounter with God Himself! Jacob realised that he needed God so he would not let go of Him! He knew he had done wrong things in his life and that he had wronged his brother and that deserved punishment but he fought to save his life showing that he was sorry and desperate for forgiveness. This can lead to scars which can be really hard, but Jacob realised that His relationship with God was essential to his life!

Well we’re deviating from Disney with this DreamWorks clip today! How to Train Your Dragon clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBQ8IfipghM HTTYD: Second time Toothless saves Hiccup (Most of Him) This clip is from How to Train Your Dragon, and in this film, we see how the dragons and the Vikings learn to work together rather than hurting each other. At the beginning of the film the Vikings and dragons are fighting against each other, hurting each other to defend themselves. Hiccup is hurt because he is overlooked and his friends and family don't think he can hurt a dragon, they encourage him to kill a dragon! So, he shoots Toothless down injuring his tail, but he can’t bring himself to kill him. He is really sorry that he has hurt him! He starts to learn and understand more about Toothless and realises that they can work together. He even makes a new tail but he has to ride him to work it, so they both need each other! We can see that even though they are both scarred from their injuries, they learn to live with them and they work together using each other’s strengths to cover their weaknesses.
2. Chat through the take it home sheet.
Click to Download
3. Sing - We are Free Planetshakers - The key words here are: We are free, nothing’s gonna hold me back or keep me down. Often if we hold onto hurt this keeps us chained up but when we forgive, we can be free!
4. Task- Make a sorry card for someone you have hurt.

Make a playdough or salt dough model or do a drawing of a hand or heart to remember that we are always in God’s hands and it’s His thoughts of us that are more important than what other’s think of us. God understands that we get hurt and upset easily – but that isn’t His plan! His plan is for us to go to Him to show Him all of our hurts and bruises for Him to kiss better - when we show God our hurts, he shows us what to do with that hurt.

Role play – have a go at practising responding to someone who hurts us, what can we say or do?

SCC Kids - Sunday 21st June

Hi Everyone welcome back to SCC Kids

The next session of our series Handling Emotions. Today we are looking at sadness.
Sadness is something we all experience at some point. Sadness isn’t a ‘wrong’ feeling, it is often the right response in certain situations!

We sometimes don’t know what to do about sadness, we try to push the feeling away, like Joy tried to do in inside out.
She was scared of Sadness and tried to stop Sadness from doing anything because she just wanted Riley to be happy – but this ended really badly!
Let’s watch to see how it works out…
1. Watch - these short Inside out ‘Sadness’ clips https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QT6FdhKriB8 Inside Out - Sadness comforts Bing Bong https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0RwbPgo4yE Inside Out - Joy realizes
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AuL8Bomi_QY Inside Out – Sadness Saves Riley

In the first clip, we see that when Bing Bong starts to feel really sad Joy is quick to step in to try to fix him, to cheer him up, but this doesn’t work. Instead Sadness comes along and takes control – she sits alongside him and listens, asks questions, helps him to remember good times, and helps him to admit he’s really sad and going through tough times. This helped him to recognise he was sad, he had a cry and then felt better! The next clip shows Joy realising Sadness’ purpose! The happy memory she loves to remember started off really sad because Riley missed the winning hockey shot and then wanted to quit ice hockey, but because she was sad mum and dad and the team came alongside her, supported and comforted her because of sadness and this then helped a sad memory turn to a happy memory because she had the support and comfort of her family and friends. Then again in the final clip we see how Sadness is needed to save Riley – when she is allowed to do her job. Riley seeks comfort from her family and is honest about her feelings – they then comfort her and this then turns into a happy memory.

There's also a man in the Bible who was really sad - lets watch to see what happened to him...

https://youtu.be/0woaxtuckss Here we see that Job had everything he ever wanted, but then when bad things started to happen, he didn’t blame God – he knew God still deserved respect and honour. His friends came to comfort him but ended up upsetting him even more because they said the wrong thing. But the friend who really helped Job stepped in and helped him to understand what God is really like! He listened to Job and comforted him – just like Sadness did in Inside Out! God blesses us when we say sorry for the wrong things we do and when we keep loving and trusting Him, sticking to His plan, whatever we go through. God brings us the comfort we need and we can talk to Him about our sadness! He is our ever-constant friend!
2. Chat through the take it home sheet.
Click to Download
This song is all about being built for a purpose – knowing your role and what to do!
This is just what Sadness needed to know!
The song also says "He’s with me, He’s for me, I am not alone" that’s what comforts us when we are sad!
4. Task- Have a go at making happy and sad faces
It’s good to talk about how you feel and to be honest about this!
Or you could make a diary or journal to show this. It’s often really hard to know how to help someone who is feeling sad. Why not make or do something today to help someone who is feeling really sad – what could you do?

SCC Kids - Sunday 14th June

Hi Everyone welcome back to SCC Kids

The next session of our series Handling Emotions and today we are looking at fear.

Fear is when we are really frightened of something or someone that causes the threat of pain, danger or harm. The best thing we can do when we feel frightened is to admit we feel frightened – to acknowledge it, and to try to work out why we feel frightened, and then look to God and hand these feelings over to Him. When we see Him we realise He is much bigger than anything we can be frightened of so we can look fear in the face and tackle it head on!

The memory verse today is from 1 John 4:18 “There is no fear in love. Perfect love drives out fear. People have fear when they are afraid of being punished. The one who is afraid has not fully experienced His perfect love.” When we realise that God has already forgiven all the things we do that are naughty and really wants to be friends with us and gives us the chance to have life forever with Him, we don’t need to be afraid of anything because He protects us and has power over everything.
1. Watch - this Inside Out Fear clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxjMEPtYY1U – This shows us that we have fear to actually keep us safe. We see that fear is frightened of loads of things and thinks of all the things that could go wrong including the worst-case scenario – like last week we saw how Marlin had a half empty type of thinking, so does fear. Fear wants to run away and hide but we can’t run away, it always catches us up.

Now watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZV3eQ2PBqHE Saddleback Kids Daniel in the Lion’s Den. Here we see that Daniel wasn’t frightened of putting God first - to stick to God’s rules which meant disobeying the King’s rules, because Daniel knew God was bigger and to be respected, and was with him, loving him and protecting him. He even prayed with the windows open!!! How brave was that!

He wasn’t frightened to face the consequences of this either because He knew God was with him – he didn’t know if He would be hurt or not but knew God’s power was greater. If he was thrown into the lions God would either protect him, heal him if he got hurt, or he would go to be with God in heaven. Either way He loved and trusted in God more than anything. When he came out the next morning he showed the king respect but he had shown that God deserved to be put first. Daniel tackled fear head on and showed a tremendous amount of trust in God; and then experienced God’s love and protection in a massive way!

3. Sing - Brave https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLAVCv_onTw Motions (Brave)
We love the lines "Your love makes me brave I can face anything!"
4. Task- Have a go at making a lion, you could make and send someone a card/picture or something to help to remind them they are loved, or bake some biscuits

Make a shortbread mix by combining 250g butter, 125g sugar, 250g plain flour and 125g semolina.
It is quite a soft mix so you’ll need plenty of flour on the table top to stop it being too sticky.
Create biscuits that reflect an aspect of today's story.
Bake the biscuits at 150c for around 20 minutes (depending on the thickness) or until golden brown.

SCC Kids - Sunday 7th June

Hi Everyone welcome back to SCCKids

Our next session in our series Handling Emotions!

Today we are looking at Doubt!

Doubt is the feeling we get when we feel uncertain about something. We may question the truth or fact of something, have distrust of something or someone, or it may be a feeling of being afraid. The Bible teaches us not to be afraid but to trust in God and to have faith. The more time we spend catching God's voice and hanging out with God in chat and catch time, the greater our faith will become and then when a seed of doubt comes along or the whisper... "Did God really say that? Is God really like that? Is God really real? Do you really believe that?..." we can recognise the doubt/lie for what it is and it won't take root.
1. Watch - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5gS_xZXLQ0 (Inside a Whale’s mouth Finding Nemo). Did you notice the difference between Dory and Marlin? Marlin is really uptight and worried but Dory is excited about their adventure, brave to ask the whale for help, and quite chilled and positive. She’s very trusting. Dory says “It’s time to let go, everything’s going to be alright” and Marlin replies “How do you know? How do you know something bad isn’t going to happen?” Dory says “I don’t” and then takes a leap of faith, letting go – and it worked! The whale helped them to get to where they needed to be, and it worked out perfectly! Faith in God is a little bit like this – we don’t know what is going to happen, but if we trust in God’s voice and do what He tells us to, accepting His help, then we may very well be much better off! What’s the worst that will happen! Take a leap of faith! I know I would rather be excited by adventure and relaxed rather than being worried and worked up about everything!

You know there was a man in the bible who doubted God’s word, he was a priest so used to go into the temple to chat and catch for all the people in their special chat and catch area called the Most Holy Place and one day an angel came to chat to him! The angel told him that even though he and his wife were really really old they would have a baby boy called John – but Zechariah didn’t believe it! But it was true! Nothing is impossible for God! Zechariah realised he was wrong, he realised he really had heard God! When he had had time to think about what had happened, he decided that he would do what God had said and called the baby John instead of naming him with the family name, he said sorry and God blessed him!

There’s also another story about someone in the Bible who doubts…

Now watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_QcGnwilXI (Saddleback Kids Jesus appears to Thomas). Thomas wasn’t with Jesus when He appeared to His disciples and was nicknamed ‘doubting Thomas’ because he found it hard to believe that Jesus had risen from the dead! Just like Marlin found it hard to believe that the whale was helping them rather than trying to eat them! It seemed impossible to some people! But Thomas just wanted to make sure – he asked questions which was good because Jesus was able to appear to Thomas and answer his questions so that they could be good friends together. Sometimes when we have doubts, it's ok to ask questions - to want to be sure just like Thomas! We can ask people who we trust and can read books and the Bible to help us and to answer our questions. When we experience a friendship with Jesus for ourselves, we get to know Him and His voice and then we know we can trust Him.

3. Sing - Nothing is Impossible! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZZgpgyFplI
4. Task- You could play 3 truths and a lie with another family! Phone them up and play this game - try to find out the lie!
Draw a frog, make a poster, or make a bracelet to help you to remember to Fully Rely on God! (FROG).
Have a go at freezing a yogurt to make your own lolly - Taste and see that the Lord is good! (Psalm 34:8)
Have a go at making a book where you can write and draw about your chat and catch times to remember the good things God has done. Just like Zechariah was given time to think and reflect, and like the people in the Bible who built memorials to remember God's goodness.
Why not make a special memory of this Coronavirus time to remember we have been given this time to make a difference, to learn more about God, and to spend time with Him and to pass these memories on to your family in the future!

SCC Kids - Sunday 31st May

Hi Everyone! Welcome to SCC Kids!

Today is the fifth in our series Handling Emotions!

Last week we looked at grief – when we lose something or someone, forever, that we have loved. However, we can have hope that Jesus offers us eternal life after death if we believe in Him, and although we don’t always understand why we have to go through grief, we know that God is always good and is always with us.

Today we are going to be looking at Guilt.
Guilt is the yucky feeling we get when we have done or said something wrong.
Can you think of a time when you have had guilt? What was it like? How did it feel? What did you do? It is good to feel sorry for what we have done wrong, but we mustn’t let that feeling overwhelm us. If we try to hide our guilt, hoping that no one will find out, we may feel like we have got away with it, but the feeling of guilt will keep coming back making us feel really yucky!

If we own up to what we have done, say sorry and try to put things right; then it may feel yucky if there are consequences, but it’ll be over, forgiven and forgotten in no time helping you to feel so much better in the long run! What about if someone has done something wrong to you? How does that feel? Perhaps discuss with your adult ways you could handle that!
1. Watch - Our Disney clip today is from Tinkerbell and the Lost Treasure. In this film Tinkerbell is given a very important job to do. Her friend Terence tries to help her. Tinkerbell begins to get annoyed with him and snaps at him. She often gets angry and snaps at her friends, blaming them for her actions. She gets so angry that she breaks the thing she is making! She goes off on a journey to find something to help her to make what she has been asked to make and begins to feel guilty about how she treated her friends. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsXU6a9p7HY 'Tinkerbell and Terence meet aboard the lost pirate ship'. Here we see how sorry Tinkerbell feels, but when she tells the truth about breaking the moonstone and says sorry to her friends, Terence was very generous to Tinkerbell by forgiving her so quickly. She is forgiven and they both feel so much better – they can be friends again!

Now watch 'Jesus forgives Peter' from Saddleback Kids https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ppb9bKX1r7k Peter felt really guilty and sad about saying he didn’t know Jesus. Did you notice how quickly Peter ran to Jesus! How often do we try to hide – but Peter rushed to say sorry, he wanted that forgiveness. When Jesus gave him the chance to say sorry, and how much he loved Jesus, (Peter had said he didn’t know Jesus 3 times, and Jesus gave him the chance to say sorry 3 times) Peter was forgiven and Jesus trusted him with a very special job to do!

3. Sing - We are free – Planetshakers. You may remember at Easter we put out a competition to see who could come up with some good actions for a new action song? Well Lyla and Bella have been working very hard and have sent us in these awesome moves! We are still learning the actions so please bear with us! I love this song because it talks about how we are set free! You know guilt can make us feel like we are tied up in chains but because Jesus died to take the punishment for our wrongs we can be free from guilt and shame!
4. Task- Have a go at playing hide and seek or Where’s Wally! You'll need to draw or print out Wally and hide him around your home, then your family have to go and find him! These hide and seek games remind us that we can’t hide from God! You could also have a go at making a model of Jesus like Teresa’s Peter model using the inside of a toilet roll or just roll up some paper or card. Or you could have a go at building a campfire model!

SCC Kids - Sunday 24th May

Hi Everyone! Welcome to SCC Kids!

Today is the fourth in our series Handling Emotions!
Last week we looked at jealousy and how jealousy can make us feel yucky and wobbly on the inside.
It comes from a place of insecurity and when we begin to realise how much God loves and values us,
we have all we need and can be happy and free to live life to the full.

Let's get started with this week's activities:

Today we are going to be looking at Grief. Grief means that you have lost, forever, something or someone that you really loved.
Can you think of a time when you have had grief? What was it like? How did it feel? What did you do?
It is OK to be sad and to miss what you don't now have. Change can be really hard!
We can have comfort that Jesus too had grief and was sad when His friend died.
We can know that whatever we are going through, God is good all the time, and He is with us and loves us.
1. Watch - Our Disney clip today is from Frozen 2. This clip comes just after Elsa and Olaf die. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--4bYamgd9A (Kristen Bell – The Next Right Thing (From Frozen 2).  In this clip Anna sings “I don’t know, anymore, what is true” – often when we go through dark, sad times our faith can be tested. Anna also says, “But a tiny voice whispers in my mind” Could it be that this tiny voice is God calling to us, reaching out to comfort and heal us in our darkest place – He comes to sit beside us and to help pull us out of that horrible place into His light. We must step forward to “do the next right thing!”

Now watch (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dca8SSxXCmM Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead - Saddleback Kids) Here we see that Jesus’ friend Lazarus dies. It must have been really hard for Lazarus’ sisters and friends to understand why Jesus didn’t rush to heal him. We don’t always understand God’s timing, but God promises us that His timing is perfect, and God never lies or breaks His promises. We also see later that it was to show us that Jesus has power over death! He says, “I Am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in Me, even though they die like everyone else, will live again. They are given eternal life for believing in Me and will never die. Do you believe this?” This is a powerful statement! Do you believe it?

3. Sing - The Joy of the Lord is my Strength – by Rend Collective. This song is great because it encourages us to keep looking to God when we are in a sad, dark place. When we look to Him, we can see how much He loves us and it is knowing His love and joy of us that gives us strength! We can have joy from knowing we are loved whatever we go through.
4. Task- Make a card to cheer someone up who maybe feeling sad; make a memory box or book to remember someone or something you loved and have lost.

SCC Kids - Sunday 17th May

Hi Everyone! Welcome to SCC Kids!

This Sunday will be the third session of our new series Handling Emotions!
Last week we looked at worry. We learnt that sometimes worry can help us to stay safe, but we mustn’t let it overwhelm us or take away our joy of life – we must pray about our worries, and remember that God is always with us and He has the power to stop them, like He stopped the waves of the storm.
How have you been getting on with the craft ideas? It's been so lovely to see some of you sending in your pictures! You can see some below... We really love the hammock and the chat and catch journals!

Let's get started with this week's activities:

Today we are going to be looking at jealousy. Jealousy is when someone wants something that someone else has. Can you think of a time when you have been jealous of someone? What was it like? How did it feel? What did you do? How did it work out in the end? What is it like when someone else has been jealous of you? How could we handle that do you think?
1. Watch - Today we will be looking at a clip from the film The Lion King ‘Scar and Mufasa’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=US3Z0o6DVgg Scar was jealous of Mufasa because he wanted to be king, he didn’t show up at Simba’s celebration ceremony because he was jealous of Simba for taking away his ‘second in line to the throne’ status. He felt sad and upset because life had been unfair to him – he even mentions that he wasn’t blessed with strength like Mufasa! He was so busy looking at his brother, he forgot to see what was good about his life. There’s a story in the Bible that is also similar to this… Saddleback Kids David and Saul https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41vnmcocZ1A We can be jealous for different reasons – Saul became jealous because he felt threatened by David, he was fearful because he thought David may hurt or kill him. Saul had stepped away from God and had started listening to lies (either thoughts or from what people had been saying) that David wanted to hurt Saul but this was a lie because David wanted to respect him as his king. Jealousy can also come from a place of pain and hurt, if life doesn’t feel fair it may be easy to feel jealous of others.

It’s good to try to be the best that we can be, but we shouldn’t compare ourselves with others or be jealous of others. Jealousy usually comes from a place of insecurity. If we don’t know our worth, value or purpose we could find it easy to compare ourselves with others or feel jealous of other people. We need to know that God really loves us, we are His masterpiece and He thinks we are awesome – so much so that He has adopted us as His children! He has a special purpose/job for our lives!

4. Task- Have a go at making a mirror with the memory verse on, or a treasure box to store all your special Bible verses, or make a chat and catch book.

SCC Kids - Sunday 10th May

Hi Everyone! Welcome to SCC Kids!

Let's get started with this week's activities:

Today is the second part of our new series 'Handling Emotions'.
Last week we looked at Anger - how have you got on with the poster of ideas on how to handle our anger feelings?
Have you been learning the memory verse from the Take Home sheet?
Today we are going to be looking at worry...

1. Watch - Today we are going to look at a clip from Finding Nemo called Marlin's Character Arc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncz4BnaDlb4 here we can see that Marlin starts out in the film as an over-protective parent who worries about everything, but he ends the film with a good balance between being careful and care-free. This clip shows that it is good to be afraid of danger because fear keeps us safe, but we must also not let worry overtake us or take the main-stage because we need to be brave and live our lives to the full, we all need fun in our lives and sometimes worry can take the fun away, we need to learn how to have safe fun. In the clip it says "In the face of what we fear most, we can surprise ourselves with our own bravery!" We can see this in the Bible too. Queen Esther was really worried about a job she had to do. In her worry she turned to her family and friends and asked them to pray for her. With their prayers and support she was able to be brave and stepped out of her comfort zone and did the job she needed to do to save her. There's another clip here from Saddleback Kids: Jesus calms the storm: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYLHqdSO9OY Jesus is the One we need to look to because He has the power to stop the waves of worry and anxiety in our lives. We need to be brave and we need to trust that He can calm the storms we face in our lives.
2. Chat through the take it home sheet.
Click to Download
3. Sing - Brave https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLAVCv_onTw - the words in this song are amazing! Your love makes me brave! No, I won't be afraid, I can face anything!
4. Task- Why not have a go at some of these crafts:
1. Make a lantern to remind you that Jesus is the light who is always with us and keeps us safe. The verse to go with this is Psalm 27:1 "Jesus, You are the light that keeps me safe. I do not need to worry or be afraid of anyone". Or
2. A picture of a boat in a storm. There is a man hugging a cross. It is made two bits of card, or a paper plate cut into two, decorate the top half as a boat and the bottom half as the sea, you could cut up and stick lots of bits of paper to make the waves and use some cotton wool to make the tops of the waves. If you have a split pin then you can attach the two bits of card together. Then add the verse "Give all your worries to Him because He cares for you". (1 Peter 5:7) Or you could use Lego or whatever you have at home to make these.

SCC Kids - Sunday 3rd May

Hi Everyone! Welcome to SCC Kids!

Let's get started with this week's activities:

Welcome to our new series on Handling Emotions!
Today we are going to be looking at anger.
Can you think of a time when you have been really angry? What was it like? How did it feel?
What did you do? How did it work out in the end?
1. Watch - Today we will be looking at a clip from the film Inside Out, 'Inside out memorable anger clips' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaJEWGSOD7s&t=246s In this clip we see lots of clips about Anger and his role in the girl's life. We see that anger cares very much about things being true, fair, and right. Anger is an emotion that we all have, and it is there to help us and others. However, anger doesn't always help us to act in the right way and can sometimes be a bit naughty! Can you remember the bits in this clip where Anger is naughty? At the end of this clip we see how Disgust uses Anger to help Joy and Sadness to get back into headquarters. How does anger help us to do what is good and right? Now look at this clip from the Miracle Maker - Cleansing of the temple https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DiT8l4_hn-k&t=104s It shows how Jesus used His anger to put things right. People were not treating God's house or people respectfully, they were being fake and not going to the temple to genuinely worship God, and put Him first. Jesus was angry, yet did not sin/do anything wrong. He used His anger to make things right. This shows us we can use our anger to make things right and to stand up for people who are not being treated in the right way. We are right to be upset by people's wrongs and to take a stand to make things right. But we must make sure that we don't behave badly when we get angry. Have a go at thinking of good ways to behave when we feel angry so that we can put things right without getting into trouble!

2. Chat through the take it home sheet.
Click to Download
3. Sing - My God is so big and so strong and so mighty https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUageJdwyPY
4. Task- Find a thin plastic bag. Now start to put some tins of food into the bag. What will happen if you keep putting more tins in? How many tins can you put in before it breaks? What can we do to stop the bag from breaking? (Stop putting things in, take some things out?) We are a bit like that plastic bag, we can only take so much and then we break or explode under pressure. What are the things we can do to help us not lose our temper when we start to feel angry? How could we help someone else when they are feeling angry?

Maybe you could make a poster listing things you could do to help you feel less angry.

Or do you need to make a sorry card for someone you have been angry and exploded at?

SCC Kids - Sunday 26th April

Hi Everyone! Welcome to SCCKids!

So let's get started with this week:

1. Watch this Saddleback Kids clip called Jesus' Ascension https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcFw8pLBSIo So far we have seen that Jesus was raised to life and appeared to lots of people. He taught them that what He did was the only way they could be forgiven and to be with God forever, and told them to tell the world about Him and His teachings and the good news of forgiveness. Jesus then ascended into heaven and the Holy Spirit came to be the disciple's helper. Now watch this clip from Kung Fu Panda - Dragon Warrior Selection https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=siguNvm0so0 In this clip we see how the panda Po wants to see what is happening at the ceremony (with the thousand tongues of fire!) to choose the great Dragon Warrior. He tries to get in, but can't. It is only by the power of the fireworks that he can get in, and he is specially chosen by the Master even though he seems an unlikely choice! How often do we feel like an unlikely choice?! And yet God chooses us to do His work and to have adventures with Him. It is only through Jesus' power and sacrifice that we can enter into His presence - we need Him and His power, and He doesn't leave us on our own! He gives us mentors, each other and His fire/power - the Holy Spirit, to get us to where He wants us to be!

2. Chat through the take it home sheet.

3. Sing - We have been learning our new song Tell the World by Austin Stone, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXk1TFL52Ho let's practise this one again, alongside today's Toothbrush Challenge action song: Give it Away by Lifetree Kids https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywCiDhbD-Js
4. Task- Have a look at the craft pictures, why not invent something similar with the resources you have at home to show Jesus ascending to heaven. In the clip we saw how the Holy Spirit looked like a glow resting on the disciples, why not make something that looks like you have the glow!
5. Challenge - Don't forget to think of some awesome actions for our new song We are Free by Planetshakers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DkG1290DI_g and send your ideas into us!

SCC Kids - Sunday 19th April

Hi Everyone! Welcome to SCCKids!

So let's get started with this week:

1. Watch this video from The Word Became Brick, Jesus Appears to His Disciples https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qeWTfWUUx9w In this clip we see how Jesus appeared to His friends after He had been raised from the dead. They were scared and shocked and thought that He was a ghost, but He shows that He is fully alive by eating and drinking and showing them His hands and feet. He shows them what the Scriptures had said about Him, and how He had fulfilled everything that the Bible had said about Him. At Easter we saw how Elsa in Frozen 2 appeared to her friends and family after she came to life again, just incase you want to see it again you can watch this here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDdNYB_bGoA, In this clip Elsa says that water has memory - but what if she's describing the Bible, and how the Bible shares memories and truth?! We also saw in the film Coco how important it is to pass on our stories and memories, and we talked about how important it is to keep telling each other the memories in the Bible. Some of Jesus' disciples found it hard to believe that He was really there with them, have you ever found it hard to believe in Jesus? Watch this clip from Dumbo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_v2exWrsGOc the birds found it really hard to believe that an elephant could fly, but when they saw it with their own eyes they were amazed, and they wanted to tell the world!

2. Chat through the take it home sheet.

3. Sing - We have learnt how Jesus told His followers to tell the world the Good News that He is alive and conquered death, let's sing about this with our song Tell the World, we introduced this new song especially for Easter, lets keep practicing it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXk1TFL52Ho

4. Make - Have a go at drawing around your hands and feet to remind you that Jesus showed His friends His hands and feet, and walks beside us. Have you painted a rainbow of hope yet? If not have a go at drawing or painting a rainbow as a sign to tell others about the hope we have in Jesus!

5. Task - Find another family you can play this game with via video call. Think of 3 truths and a lie about your family, ask the other family to do the same, then call them and ask them to guess which is the lie!

SCC Kids - Sunday 12th April
Easter Sunday

Hello Everyone!

Today is Easter Sunday, Happy Easter!!.

So let's get started with this week:

1. Watch - The Seriously Surprising Story from The Bible Society https://youtu.be/ndtnZV-5QTo - this is the Easter Story and it tells us about God's plan to send Jesus, "He died on the cross and then he rose from the tomb, He came back to life so we can live too!" This is the greatest story that's ever been told! Have you spotted that we can see this story in other stories? How's the Disney Challenge been going? I've really been loving it! There's so much God stuff in there if you ask God to show you! There are quite a few clips today because it's just so exciting! In our family we love Frozen 2 and I wanted to share with you the similarities to the Easter Story! Sorry if you haven't seen it yet - there may be spoilers here! (If you want to have a little background see this trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwzLiQZDw2I) Firstly we learn that the spirits banished people from the enchanted forest with a mist covering the forest because of a wrong that was committed, so no one was allowed in - we see this in the Bible in Genesis 3. When Adam and Eve disobeyed God, they were then banished from the Garden of Eden, they were separated from God; and this is when God's plan for Jesus to come to Earth first started. Elsa and Anna then learn who they are - they are half Arendellian and half Northuldra (the people of the sun or is it spelt Son?!) which therefore makes them perfect to right the past wrongs between the people of Arendelle and Northuldra. Jesus was fully God and fully man, and was therefore perfect to right past wrongs. Watch this clip showing how the sisters sacrificed their lives to right the wrongs of the past and to protect their people, and how Elsa was brought back to life again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rm-JWxU1BuA Just after this clip we see the mist being lifted away, and the forest is then restored. How wonderful that because of Jesus' sacrifice we too can choose to have our lives restored, with all the mist and wrongs in our lives that separated us from God being removed so we can draw close to God! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mX4W7G0EMa8 In this final clip we see Elsa appearing to people after she rises from the dead - they are overjoyed to see her again, just as Jesus' followers were when He appeared to them. Elsa is described as a bridge - as Jesus is often described as a bridge between us and God. Elsa points out how a bridge has two sides - God has reached down to us to save us, will you reach out to Him and accept His invitation to be part of His family?

2. Chat through the take it home sheet.

3. Sing - 3. Sing and dance along to our new Easter Song Tell The World by Austin Stone Worship: Kids https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXk1TFL52Ho

4. Make - Have a go at making a stained glass cross or egg, or an Easter garden (see pictures for inspiration!) using any resources you may have at home. Why not have a go at The Seriously Surprising Adventure Trail! Click to download it here.

We hope you have a very Happy Easter! Please share with us your crafts, Bible verses, best action moves and prayer requests by using this form.

Hello Everyone!

Today is Maundy Thursday, so in SCCKids today we will be looking at what this means.

So let's get started with this week:

1. Watch - On Maundy Thursday we remember the time when Jesus celebrated the first day of the Passover Supper with His followers - this was His Last Supper with them before He died, watch the Saddleback Kids The Easter Story (The Last Supper) clip to find out more https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SigoALSS1R8&t=68s Jesus taught us that we should remember Him by celebrating Communion together. We eat bread to remember that He gave His body for us, and we drink wine to remember that He shed His blood for the forgiveness of our wrongs. Remembering is very important in the Bible, we are often told to remember all that God has done for us, to pass those stories onto our children and children's children (Deut. 6:5-7, Joshua 4:1-7 can you think of any more examples?) Now watch this clip from the Disney movie Coco 'Remember Me' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgmgZmTMxms in this film we learn the importance of remembering family members and telling each other stories of family moments. Here the father had left his child letters and songs to show her his love for her. Our Heavenly Father has left us wonderful love letters (The Bible) and the book of Zephaniah (in the Bible) tells us that He delights over us with singing! We also learn that music is a great way of remembering! This is why we often use songs to remember verses in the Bible, as they are catchy and we can remember the words easily.

2. Chat through the take it home sheet.

3. Sing - All Through History: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ixs2l2hzv4 We often use songs as a way of remembering all that God has done and His precious words He gives us in the Bible. Thank God for His faithfulness to us and use this song to remember all He has done for us!

4. Make - Why not make something to remember your family connections in this unique period of time - family hand prints, or a time capsule collecting things to help remember. Or make an Easter box with things to remember the Easter story! See pictures for inspiration!

SCC Kids - Sunday 5th April
Palm Sunday

Hi Everyone! Welcome to Church! Happy Palm Sunday! For SCCKids this morning we'll be looking at Palm Sunday!

Last week we discussed if our inner voice could be God's voice chatting to us, guiding us?! How have you been getting on with the Disney task - what has God been saying to you? How do we trust this voice? Well it always matches what the Bible says, it is always good, kind, truthful and helpful.

So let's get started with this week:

1. Watch the following video clip: Saddleback Kids The Easter Story, The Triumphal Entry: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-39h0xYqdE Today is Palm Sunday, where we celebrate when Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey. These next video clips are from Aladdin - where Aladdin as Prince Ali enters the city: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EVlNhmTEPI and then when he tells Jasmine he came first as a street rat to get to know the people: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRdX9b8_wP8 Jesus also came as one of the people, someone who would have been put down and despised like Aladdin was as a street rat, but Jesus was perfect and He really was a King but chose to ride on a humble donkey! Aladdin was not perfect, he was a thief and a liar, but he was welcomed into the kingdom as royalty, and in the end made the right choices to help defeat evil. Because of Jesus, and what He accomplished at Easter, we too can choose to proudly come into His Kingdom as royalty (without Aladdin's lie) and make good choices to help defeat evil! Which entrance would you prefer - King Jesus' or Prince Ali's? Jesus promises to one day return again in glory - how do you think this will look? (Matthew 24:27-31) Discuss the ways we celebrate people today, and how do we celebrate Jesus today?

2. Chat through the take it home sheet.

3. Sing Alive (Hillsong Young and Free) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEvEVALLjNQ (see my video for the actions below)

4. Make a palm branch or donkey! Use whatever you have at home to get creative, (there are some picture ideas to get you started) we would love to see your crafts so please send your pictures into us at somptingcommunitychurch.yandc@gmail.com

SCC Kids - Sunday 29th March

Good morning everyone! Welcome to Church! For SCCKids this morning, we'll be looking at Toy Story 4! Finding your inner voice! Let's get started:

1. Watch the following video clips: They are also below this section (warning: the first clip is really quiet but there is a very loud finish!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fWiXsOMRLs This clip is all about Woody telling Buzz that he has an inner voice. Although I have to ask - what if that voice is God? Discuss! Now watch how Buzz learns to listen to this voice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TRdgrPzb7s&t=30s and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjAkgLXFTu8 Sometimes we may think that God's voice may just be our thoughts or a coincidence, but see how amazingly this 'inner voice' leads Buzz to where he needed to go, and to do what he needed to do! I would say this was a God-incident! When we learn God's voice - He leads, directs, helps and gives us missions!

2. Chat through the take it home sheet.

3. Sing and dance to today's action song Follow You https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wfhv1iN4Fo (or see below)

4. Make Buzz - why not have a go at making a model of Buzz out of lego, recycling materials, duplo, playdough - whatever you have at home! Send your pictures into us either on Facebook or email them to somptingcommunitychurch.yandc@gmail.com

5. Task: Choose any Disney movie of your choice, ask God to chat to you through the movie - now go on an adventure by watching the movie and see what God has to say to you through it! Have a go at drawing/writing about what God has been saying! (Maybe you could do one a week while we are off school?)
