About Sompting Community Church

At Sompting Community Church (SCC), we are passionate about our community and sharing the good news about Jesus. We are a group of people of different backgrounds, cultures, and ages all united in the Gospel of Jesus, the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit. At SCC you can be guaranteed a warm welcome and made to feel like one of the family because that’s what we are. We believe that church is more than Sunday, church is every day, and we are committed to making church a place where people can find Jesus and feel loved no matter who they are. Why not come and join our family and find your place in God’s great Kingdom.

Will you dare to be different?

“Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,”

Acts 2:46

SCC are delighted to be part of the Evangelical Alliance.

Is to know Jesus and make him known.

Is to give every person in Sompting the opportunity to respond to God’s transforming message, by serving the community through a strong and growing church.

We Want To

  • Bring pleasure and honour to God
  • Enjoy God and each other
  • Honour Jesus as head of the church
  • Submit to the bible as the Word of God
  • Experience the fullness of the Spirit
  • Make worship and prayer a priority
  • Hold to the conviction that every person matters to God
  • Promote a Christian community based on acceptance, respect, honesty and encouragement, and committing to resolving differences and conflict through forgiveness and reconciliation
  • Take seriously our responsibility to proclaim the gospel of salvation to our community and beyond
  • Be committed to developing a strong and creative working relationship with our local community
  • Remember the importance of children and young people
  • Develop Christian disciples who are being transformed into the likeness of Christ
  • Maintain the Balance between Word and Spirit – learning about God and experiencing him
  • Promote team leadership, nurturing the gifts of everyone in the church family and encouraging them to contribute to the life of the church
  • Work with other local churches and be part of the worldwide church
  • We subscribe to the Evangelical Alliance Statement of Faith

We believe in...

  • The one true God who lives eternally in three persons – the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
  • The love, grace and sovereignty of God in creating, sustaining, ruling, redeeming and judging the world.
  • The divine inspiration and supreme authority of the Old and New Testament Scriptures, which are the written Word of God – fully trustworthy for faith and conduct.
  • The dignity of all people, made male and female in God’s image to love, be holy and care for creation, yet corrupted by sin, which incurs divine wrath and judgement.
  • The incarnation of God’s eternal Son, the Lord Jesus Christ – born of the virgin Mary; truly divine and truly human, yet without sin.
  • The atoning sacrifice of Christ on the cross: dying in our place, paying the price of sin and defeating evil, so reconciling us with God.
  • The bodily resurrection of Christ, the first fruits of our resurrection; his ascension to the Father, and his reign and mediation as the only Saviour of the world.
  • The justification of sinners solely by the grace of God through faith in Christ.
  • The ministry of God the Holy Spirit, who leads us to repentance, unites us with Christ through new birth, empowers our discipleship and enables our witness.
  • The church, the body of Christ both local and universal, the priesthood of all believers — given life by the Spirit and endowed with the Spirit’s gifts to worship God and proclaim the gospel, promoting justice and love.
  • The personal and visible return of Jesus Christ to fulfil the purposes of God, who will raise all people to judgement, bring eternal life to the redeemed and eternal condemnation to the lost, and establish a new heaven and new earth.
  • That our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, God manifest in the flesh, is the sole and absolute authority in all matters pertaining to faith and practice, as revealed in the Holy Scriptures, and that each church has liberty, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, to interpret and administer His laws.
  • That Christian Baptism is the immersion in water into the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, of those who have professed repentance towards God and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ who ‘died for our sins according to the Scriptures; was buried and rose again on the third day’.

Meet The Leadership Team

Something for everyone at SCC

Our overall vision as a church is to see lives transformed through Jesus and all our activities support that aim. Our mission, how we go about transforming lives, is by helping people to Belong, Believe and Become.

There is something for everyone on Sunday mornings at SCC. We meet together at Sompting Village Primary School for a family friendly service that starts at 10.30am.

We are passionate about making Sunday mornings connect with all ages. Adults, children, and young people can expect lively worship music, relevantly presented bible stories, craft and games, where children can encounter God at their own level. For adults we have a talk each week that encourages us to explore and open up the bible applying it to real life. This is the place where we aim to meet with God in a deeper way through His Word, and where we try to think through our faith in more in-depth, combined with a time of worship together through music in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
